You may feel like it's more like when you first started drinking coffee, or that a regular coffee hits you more like a shot of espresso. The effects – both in terms of energy and in focus – will be more pronounced. Additionally, without the delay of food, caffeine hits harder. Caffeine is readily absorbed through the stomach lining and intestinal walls, so it hits your bloodstream almost immediately. This means a few things.įirst, it means the coffee will hit you much faster. When you're fasting, you don't have anything in your stomach. The sugar and caffeine doesn't hit you all at once it's partially absorbed by your food and lasts a little longer before it works its way through your system. You have some food in your stomach, which helps to even out the beverage. The thing about normal coffee drinking, though, is that you do it when you're eating breakfast or afterwards.
